untolds pennyroyal imprint drops its fourth release in august, a four track ep from techno heavyweights ben sims and paul macs fokus group project entitled fokus group ep. started by the hemlock recordings man earlier in 2013, pennyroyal has so far released ballsy, uncompromising modern techno by j tijn and boner m and that musical remit continues with sims and macs hardcore fuelled, selftitled assault. nut nut, mucky crack funk, 93.2 and rave x3 = murder and the titles and they pretty much speak for themselves – there is a reckless abandon across all four cuts that musically gives off a distinct old school feel feel without getting bogged down in self conscious retro aesthetics.

in the past our releases have had a lot of support from excellent djs – but never so much as with geiom’s glesprin ep. this year ben ufo, sully, beneath, the black dog, brackles, midland, spatial, al tourettes, hackman, happa, west norwood cassette library and of course geiom have all played tracks from the ep.

recent landed releases have come from rick wade, norm talley and dwayne jensen and those names speak for themselves when it comes to deeper sounds. here, italian producer giovanni damico more than holds his own against these detroit legends, continuing the landed run of top form.

after the successful debut release schmitzhöhe ep, bergwacht records is now coming up with the second project arbol del tule ep. of course the now well-favoured sound of bergwacht turns up on this release as well, and with dutch artists michael and jurriën of 10dens two more appreciated ambassadors of melodic techno could be gained over. the idea of producing an ep to pay homage to the trees of our earth arised after a long-standing friendship followed by 10dens first gig at a bergwacht event end of 2012. once again this is made clear: bergwacht is a family affair.

it is no secret that ben watt has chosen to close his acclaimed label buzzin fly to new music after ten great years as one of the uks leading dance independents. but the label has chosen to go out with a bang with one final single. unearthed from the vaults are two dazzling tracks from cornerstone artists, rodamaal, and manoo and francios a. rodamaals fortune was originally completed back in 2007 but scheduling problems prevented it from being released at the time. produced by the franco-portuguese trio (rocco, darkmountaingroups alex santos and manoo) it is a stark but emotionally-charged deep-techno masterpiece, that deserves its place alongside their other classics for the label, musica feliz and insomnia. on the flip, and originally produced in 2005, is other places a long-lost track by manoo and francois a. full of summer shimmer and heavy bass tones, it was produced by the duo during their heyday at the label, and was a secret favourite of label boss, ben watt. two perfect swansongs. buzz buzz.

samuli kemppi may have begun in warm house climes as the duo sam & gigi, but he has since found his niche and fame sound tracking the deep and icy black recesses of space. 2009s komisch debut, deep space helsinki ep, birthed the galactic signature that would come to define his solo techno output for labels like prologue, mote-evolver and perc trax, meanwhile cementing his stylistic meanderings to a single, albeit flexible, narrative. parallax of one second ep is samuli kemppis third outing on m rec ltd, after the full cyclic model ep and remix inclusion on ben gibsons more than milk, and sees the fin plundering the astronomic theme once again with stellar sci-fi precision.

the white man & the arab – an uneasy pairing of minds designed to deliver dancefloor bliss via the medium of limited 12s – is ben micklewright aka blm (of fear of flying / underground quality fame) and souhail zaatari aka soho (of phonica / etc fame). together they been secretly labouring away in the studio and this four tracker is their first joint outing.

out of the blue follows the recent success of the self titled vester koza ep, which gained support from djs such as ben ufo, even tuell, lowtec, giles smith, efdemin, alland byallo, lee gamble, braiden, and madteo. his brand of deep house and techno was recently compared to both kassem mosse and levon vincent by juno, whilst resident advisor noted ìa confident artist employing a level of patience and discipline that rewards repeated listens. as with the first release, this sequel is made up from a batch of demo recordings that circualted late last year. the works were written and recorded by vester koza in east london and have been mastered by helmut erler at dubplates and mastering berlin.

jamie jones is back with a killer release for crosstown rebels. new single moan & groan is a vintage jones production full of bounce, quirks and sex appeal. its joined by two remixes of tonight in tokyo from jamies album of secret weapons tracks from the crypt, released last summer. both showcasing their own sharp, signature styles, ben westbeechs darker alias breach drops the deep bass while french house icons cassius introduce epic chords and sky­scraping synth lines

young adults enters its sophomore year with an ever expanding bag of left coast body music. having released 12 inches from westward wonder kid suzanne kraft and a sampler ep that culled production heat from both the us and abroad, 2013 finds the house and disco hub digging deeper to keep speakers bumping and dance floors steamy. house slippers is an exploration of the night – sultry whispers, percolating elixirs, coos, croons, red lights, black lights, and strobe lights – all situated in downstairs speakeasies, lofted warehouses and hazy afterhours. the compilation soundtracks the progression from dusk till dawn, complete with warm up burners, peak time jammers and comedown chuggers. with contributions from permanent vacation, mark e, ben la desh and others, ya continues to curate its signature sound with like-minded party rockers.

daniel helmer and ben manzone started making tracks as sycorax back in early 2011. since then they have self-released 2 in demand 12 inches. in the spring of 2012 they debuted their live all hardware set at the bunker in brooklyn. their second 12 inch titled orfamay quest was a top seller of 2012 at halcyon records. mike simonetti has known ben from sycorax for over 15 years, and is probably more proud of this release than any other to date. true underground sounds.

berlin based brit ed davenport launches his own counterchange imprint, titled after his defining debut lp last year on uk label nrk. maintaining the concept of presenting bold, contrasting and multi-faceted dance music, the label will release new material from ed alongside other artists, ranging from techno, house, electronica, and beyond. blending atmospheric house with heavily laden techno, davenports inland project was first revealed on the berlin based falkplatz label in 2012, with the self titled inland ep.
